Our hypothesis

The immense destruction of environment (ecocide) happening in Ukraine can be tackled - already today - with tech startups adapting their solutions and piloting in Ukraine.

How to prove this hypothesis:

1) We look for companies in these domains: air, soil & wildlife, water, radiation
2) We invite interested companies to record their 90-sec video pitch how their solution can help in Ukraine.
3) We will showcase these pitches in our physical space in Cannes Film Festival in front of up to 30 000 guests and our digital channels.
4) We gather feedback from decision makers in Ukraine and donor organisations and select the teams who they are interested in.
5) We work with teams to make pilot projects in Ukraine happen.

What you need to do?

1) Register on Forms: https://forms.gle/CXdvvNkwZJ2vAGD68
2) Record a 90 sec video:
- Company name?
- Which domain (air, soil & wildlife, water, radiation) are you focusing on?
- What is the problem you hope to solve in Ukraine?
- What is your solution and how can it help?
- Where is the solution being used now (inside or outside Ukraine)?
- What needs to be changed for the solution to be used in Ukraine?
- What support do you need from mentors or domain experts?
3) Join the Telegram community to get updates on the project: https://t.me/vonaeco

What happens after?

1) We select the most impactful teams with the decision makers and the funding enablers. We contact the successful teams in 2 weeks.
2) We match together the decision makers/implementation partners and teams to understand what could be a possible pilot in Ukraine.
3) We are looking for access to funding for each project.
4) Pilots happen!

Why Cannes?

The Vona hackathon idea started from an ongoing documentary series called "VONA: inside ecocide" that explores the devastating toll that war inflicts on our environment. The project aims to bring together filmmaking, innovation and community activism. At the biggest film festival in the world, we are creating an exhibition space to bring attention to the ecocide happening in Ukraine and inviting the international community to support the possible solutions.
